GarageBand for Windows

Windows users have been waiting for many years (since 2004, in fact) for a PC version of Apple's GarageBand. Until recently, there simply was no program for Windows to match GarageBand in terms of ease-of-use, killer features and price. Alternatives were either difficult to use and limited in features or, at the other end, pro packages with a much higher price point.
This year, all that has changed. One program in particular has met the GarageBand for Windows challenge head-on: Mixcraft. Use it once and you are sold. Here at the GarageDoor we thought GarageBand would always be the undisputed leader of nearly-free recording software packages, but now even we have our doubts. This Windows program is a gem.

Just be warned that none of these give you that beautiful "real recording studio mixing desk" feeling you get when sitting in front of Mixcraft. Or the features. Or the speed. Or the ease of use. Sometimes, forking out a few dollars pays itself back handsomely in time saved and frustration avoided.
